Search
and Rescue is both physically and mentally demanding. Many searches happen late at night or early in the morning. They occur
during holidays, during the work week and often times at the most inopportune times. When a search occurs, someone’s
life depends on you responding quickly.
The training
is also demanding. An average person involved in search and rescue puts in 30 to 50 hours a month. It's not unheard of
for a person to spend upwards of 100 hours a month the first year in search and rescue. On top of the basic search and rescue
demands, training and keeping a canine skilled and at it's best can be exhausting.
On
the other hand search and rescue is very rewarding. The first time your dog makes a find all the hard work seems
worth it. If you are fortunate enough to be a part of a search team that finds a subject, such as a 4-year-old child that
would have not lasted the night, your time and dedication is a small price to pay.
If you feel you have the time,
dedication and physical ability to serve the community in this way please complete the survey and submit it to the team. We
will contact you at our earliest convenience. Thank You!

K-9
Special Teams is an extension of the community and we feel that a "train along" offers an opportunity to learn more
about navigation, wilderness survival, what search and rescue is all about and of course meet our best friends... our canines!!
Through this program K-9 Special Teams offers limited opportunities to go out with the team and help us train. We offer the
opportunity to hide for the canines, provide handler support or just observe. Feel free to submit a request to go out on a
"train along" and we will get back to you at our earliest convenience.
